Tentative Deal Reached to Avert Strike at USA Ports

Paarl, 10 January 2025 — South African fruit industry representative bodies, the South African Table Grape Industry (SATI), Hortgro, and the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF) welcome the tentative agreement between the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance announced on Wednesday, 8 January 2025.

This reported deal averts a potential strike and addresses concerns around job security and port modernisation. However, the agreement must still be ratified by the union’s membership.

We will continue to engage with stakeholders and monitor the situation pending ratification.

Industry members are encouraged to stay informed through their respective representative bodies.
