MEDIA STATEMENT: Agri-Workers Impacted by Heat Exhaustion in the Orange River Region

SATI has become aware of the impacts heat exhaustion has had on Agri-workers in the Orange River Region. It has been brought to our attention that in some instances, Agri-workers have sadly passed away due to heat exhaustion. These are tragic circumstances and on behalf of the table grape industry, we extend sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the Agri-workers who have been lost.

At present we are not in possession of the full details related to the said events, including whether impacted Agri-workers are from the table grape sector. We are reaching out to our members to understand more about the situation and will release a follow-up statement as soon as more information as become available.

SATI supports ethical working conditions and urges all employers to ensure that a safe working environment is provided to employees.
