Project leader: Graeme Matthews (Provar)
Contact: graeme@provar.co.za
Duration: 1 October 2017 – Continuous
Problem identification and project objectives:
To achieve higher income from new table grape cultivars and to overcome biotic and abiotic stress conditions, new table grape roostocks will continuously be developed by breeders and imported to South Africa by IP owners. To quantify the response of these new roostocks to diverse soils and climatic conditions on yield, quality and die-back of the table grape scion cultivar, evaluation needs to be performed in diverse planting areas. The main objective of this project is to the evaluation of adaptability of new rootstocks in different soil and growing conditions to enable identification of superior rootstocks for specific planting areas.
