On Thursday 29 May 2025, SATI held its Annual General Meeting virtually. The meeting provided a report on SATI’s activities and finances for the previous financial year.
Dawie Roodt presented an overview of global economic trends, local economic conditions, and socio-political factors, concluding with a concise outlook for South Africa’s economic future.
SATI Chairperson, Alwyn Dippenaar, presented the chairperson’s report, reflecting on the 2024/25 table grape season and some of the industry achievements from the past year.
Key highlights from the Chairman’s report:
Resilience and Growth: Despite global trade uncertainties, the industry remains resilient, with a 5% increase in export volumes year-on-year in the 2024/25 season.
Market Access: SATI secured market access for table grape exports to the Philippines and is awaiting feedback from the Republic of Korea’s market verification visit.
Logistics: The Logistics Model Project made significant progress with the successful implementation of Phase 2, which provided valuable insights. SATI is exploring potential industry partnerships for a possible Phase 3.
Transformation: SATI improved its B-BBEE rating to level 3 and supported transformation initiatives, including funding for the Vine Academy & Model Farm and bursaries for students.
Research and Development: Research projects is the current year will focus on key themes including:
- improved production practices for producing good quality grapes
- post-harvest practices to maintain grape quality
- holistic approaches to pest management
