On Thursday, 28 September 2017 SATI hosted drought seminars in 3 of the table grape production regions in the Western Cape most affected by the drought. The seminars focused on the state of water supply as well as practical tools and tips for producers to use during the drought.

How to improve water use efficiency?

Dr Phillip Myburgh, an irrigation specialist from the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), on why efficient irrigation water use is critical for the table grape industry?

• Water resources are generally limited in most grape growing regions, and inconsistent rainfall causes periodic droughts.
• This scenario may worsen if climate change reduces rainfall and increases air temperature.

Supporting Efficient Farming

Caren Jarmain from the Universit of Stellenbosch gives an overview of the satellite technology that allows farmers to look at growth, water and nitrogen on their farms by use of this application.
